Immigration, first registration of re-registering coming from abroad

If you are moving from abroad to the municipality of Soest, you need to come to the town hall in person to inform the municipality of this. You will need to make an appointment.

Conditions

  • You are moving from abroad to the municipality of Soest
  • You will be living in the Netherlands for more than 4 months
  • You have the Dutch nationality, a European nationality, or a valid residence permit.

What do you need at the appointment

  • A valid form of identification proving your nationality
  • Proof of legitimate residence. This can be a valid residence permit, or the residence note from the IND in your passport, or the MVV sticker issued after 1 June 2013, or the decision by the IND (TEV) / invitation by the IND to pick up the residence permit
  • Proof of occupancy. Rental agreement or deed of the residence. Or, if you are a subtenant or moving in with someone, permission from the main occupant/owner (pdf, 86 KB) to do so.

If applicable one or several of the following original and recent certificates:

  • Birth certificate of yourself and your family members who will be moving with you
  • Marriage and/or divorce certificate(s)
  • Death certificate of your partner

The municipality will verify all documents. The certificates are not mandatory for your registration and can also be delivered at a later timepoint.

  • You already have a citizen service number (BSN)
  • You have the Dutch nationality, a European nationality or a valid residence permit

Legalising your documents

Before your documents are ready to use in the Dutch system, they may need legalisations and/or translations. Documents are most often legalised in the country from where the document originates. Your document must be original and complete, including referred-to document and annexes.

If your document is not in English, French, German, or Dutch you will most likely have to have it translated.

We will check all the information supplied and, if complete, send you an email allowing you to book an appointment.

Fees

BRP registration is provided free of charge. The fees for the residence permit can be found on the website of the IND.

How long does it take?

The amount of time it takes to register in the BRP depends on your personal situation and the documents which are required. Usually, your BRP registration will be processed within 4 weeks once you have submitted all your documents.

You will receive a letter from the municipality with the confirmation of your registration. If this is your first registration, this letter will also contain your BSN.
